CoT: Peek Into Future Through Futures, How Hedge Funds Are Positioned

Following futures positions of non-commercials are as of January 8, 2019.

Beginning December 21, the CFTC was not able to publish reports on time due to the partial shutdown of the federal government, which has now reopened.  On Tuesday, data for the week of December 31 was published, followed Friday by the one for the week through January 8.  Four more are due.  The CFTC expects to publish one report on Tuesday and another on Friday of each week until the reports are current as per the normal schedule.  Until then, we will only present the charts below, but not commentaries.

10-year note: Currently net short 188.1k, down 120.2k.

30-year bond: Currently net short 30.7k, up 4.1k.

Crude oil: Currently net long 349.8k, down 29k.

E-mini S&P 500: Currently net long 131.8k, down 33.7k.

Euro: Currently net short 40.5k, down 6.1k.

Gold: Currently net long 99.2k, down 24.6k.

Nasdaq 100 index (mini): Currently net short 6k, down 2.7k.

Russell 2000 mini-index: Currently net short 33.8k, up 14.2k.

US Dollar Index: Currently net long 33.2k, up 818.

VIX: Currently net long 21.1k, down 19.4k.
